Netflix Java Fundamentals Pre-Start Guide

Welcome to the Netflix Java Fundamentals Boot Camp!

This guide supplies an overview of the required software downloads and information that you’ll need on the first day of class. It also includes a high-level breakdown of the concepts that the boot camp will cover over the next 16 weeks.

As you'll discover, this boot camp is fast-paced and challenging. To make sure that you have everything you'll need on Day 1, review the entire list of materials, and download and install all the necessary software.

What to Expect in This Boot Camp

This boot camp differs a bit from the learning experiences you might be used to.

Once the class begins, you and your peers will begin a rigorous journey. Your instructor will quickly lead the class from one concept to another. The next several weeks might prove challenging, frustrating, and even bewildering at times, but you'll learn a lot—and you’ll learn it fast.

Making the most of this boot camp comes down to some simple advice:

  • Prepare—Be ready to learn, and be sure that your equipment and materials are ready.

  • Work hard—You'll get out what you put in.

  • Learn from others—Your classmates are a valuable resource to help each other throughout the class.

You won’t be alone. You’ll have support every step of the way, including your instructor, teaching assistants (TAs), SSM, and classmates. To ensure that you are as successful as possible, complete this guide, then come to class prepared and with the proper mindset and expectations.

Module 3 will get you to think like a computer, a fundamental programming skill.

Module 4 offers tips and best practices to help you make the most of this boot camp.
